2021 Vendor Features: MRK Produce
Next up on our 2021 Haddonfield Farmers’ Market Vendor Features is MRK Produce!
About this time last time last year, Matt Kirchner started putting produce boxes together as a hobby for friends while living in the Los Angeles area. He would source items from the surrounding farmers markets and from there, he built a multitude of great relationships.
Although Matt started MRK Produce in California, his hometown is actually our very own Haddonfield, New Jersey. He started in the area this year, using the same type of produce boxes. Through the Philly wholesale market near the PHL airport, Matt sourced different types of ingredients for his boxes. MRK Produce delivers to Philadelphia County and Camden County.
Much curiosity and interest in the food industry sparked Matt’s idea to start MRK Produce. He mentioned that he has always been interested in food generally speaking, but produce was always especially interesting to him. Many of his friends and family worked in the restaurant and food distribution businesses, so he was naturally curious as to how the industry worked.
Matt began to pursue his interest in the food industry by volunteering at a farmers market in LA. He was exposed to much involving farming and produce, and he quickly recognized that there was a need to get fresh produce delivered to people especially during the coronavirus outbreak, as some were unable to go to the grocery store. What began as a hobby transitioned into a passion project!
MRK Produce is essentially rooted in the pandemic because there was a need for deliveries, and from there, the business grew even larger. People just loved the concept! And Matt loves curating these fresh produce boxes!
MRK Produce is most excited to build connections as a vendor for the Haddonfield Farmers’ Market this year. Looking forward to meeting people in person and establishing connections outside of the internet, Matt is eager to grow MRK Produce this season.
MRK Produce will be offering specialty items that not only complement the “typical” Jersey produce but also “push the limit”. Matt and Jessica, a partner working with MRK produce, are not farmers, but they have the connections to farmers and want to promote as many farms as possible. They are very excited for the opportunity to engage with the Haddonfield community and are looking to offer a fun and cool experience for the people in the area!
